To amortise a home loan is to reduce or repay the balance with regular payments.

The repayments on an amortising home loan go towards the interest costs incurred since the last repayment, and a portion of the principal balance.

This differs from an 'interest only' loan, where the regular payments cover only the interest portion, and the whole principal balance is outstanding at the end of the loan term.
