Pre-approval Document Checklist

Find out below what personal information and documents you need to provide when applying for a home loan.

Standard home loan pre-approval

  • Valid ID - Preferably Passport and or Driver’s License (Front & back)
  • Address Verification - (Bank statements showing address or utility bill held in applicants name)
  • 3 months most recent and consecutive bank statements for your current & savings accounts
  • Evidence of Deposit (i.e. Bank statements, Share Statements, Confirmation of KiwiSaver, Homestart Grant withdrawal, Gifting letter)
  • Evidence of income (i.e. Most recent 3 Pay slips/Copy of employment Contract, or for self-employed end of year financial statements)

First Home Loan pre-approval

This First Home loan product is only offered by a select number of banks and has a stricter criteria than a standard home loan. As such, a few more documents are required for the application:

  • Signed First Home Loan Authorisation Form (Will be provided as required)
  • Valid ID – Passports preferred option
  • Evidence of NZ Citizenship or residency – either passport or NZ Birth Certificate
  • Address verification (Bank statements showing address or utility bill held in applicants name)
  • 3 months bank statements
  • 3 months credit card statements
  • 3 most recent and consecutive pay slips
  • Letter from Employer confirming employment or employment contract
  • If you are self-employed – Last 2 years completed financials supported by IRD Tax Summary
  • Evidence of Deposit (i.e. Bank statement/Confirmation of KiwiSaver and Homestart Grant withdrawal/Gifting letter)
  • Sale and Purchase Agreement (Can be provided later)
  • Registered Valuation on property - will be required and ordered on your behalf at your cost via a 3rd party valuation system such as CoreLogic or Valocity. The valuation should not note that any siginficant maintenance or repair work is needed.
